The Human Rights Youth Forum

WHO: The World Youth Wave CSO  from Belgrade, Serbia, in partnership with the following CSOs – Union of Secondary Students of Serbia (Serbia), Helsinki Committee for Human Rights (Serbia), European Youth Association (Albania) and Mjaft! Movement (Albania).

WHY: Despite the efforts of both countries to implement human rights education in the school curricula through civic education, there is still a gap that needs to be bridged by non-formal education. Effective human rights education not only provides knowledge about human rights and the operational mechanisms for how to protect them or how to protect civic liberties., but also develops the skills needed to promote, defend and apply human rights daily basis. This project will promote democratic values among young people as well as serve as  means for youth activism and non-formal education. In order to create an environment of equality and solidarity, youth empowerment is essential – especially with regard to topics of their direct concern, such as human rights and civic education.

WHAT: The Human Rights Youth Forum, shall take place in Tirana in August 2017. The Forum will invite 40 young Serbs and Albanians, taking into consideration gender equality, to jointly discuss human rights from their own perspective for three days. For this purpose, participants will be divided into four different working groups, each one related to a different aspect of human rights education: National Minorities’ Rights to Education, Human Rights Education in Educational Systems, Freedom of Expression and Advocacy to combat Religious Hatred, Discrimination based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. Participants will agree on a set of recommendations – “The Voice of Youth”, which will be disseminated online and delivered to stakeholders.

WHERE: Tirana, Albania; online.

Follow our updates for an open call and be one of 40 participants of the Forum!
